I have a new respect and appreciation for Mother’s Day this year, though it’s not because I feel that I need the recognition. I mean, I’ve only been at this Mom thing for 8.5 months. It’s because finally, after 25 years of being someone’s child, I can understand what that truly means. To carry the weight of having someone fully dependent on you. To experience a love that you couldn’t have imagined, and yet can’t imagine life without. To know that, at least for a moment, you were the most important person in someone’s life.
After waiting to be a mother, and after taking my mother for granted, Mothers Day takes on a new light. So though I am greatly appreciative of mothers year round, let me pause a moment to say Thank You.
To the mother who dutifully drives her kids to practice four nights a week.
To the mother that changes yet another wet diaper at three in the morning.
To the mother that stays up worrying about her daughter’s science fair project.
To the mother nursing her little one back to health.
Whether you are a mom, have a mom, or dream of becoming a mom…
You are incredible. You are noticed. You are valued. And I am grateful.
Thank you, and Happy Mothers Day.
