Baking Bliss

I’m just now awakening from a deep sugar coma, thanks to the Canadian Baking and Sweets Show my best friend and I attended this weekend. I’m a die-hard Food Network fan, so when we heard that SugarStars, Duff Goldman, and Anna Olson were going to be there, we knew that it was worth a trip. I’d brave the busy, winding highways and the Friday evening traffic for a treat bag, the promise of a few demos, and cupcake samples  galore.

Just a few of the beautiful cakes we saw. Can you believe the detail on that stack of pancakes? Its pretty awesome.

This is my best friend’s daughter; she was so proud of the cone-cupcake that she decorated. Well…that her mom decorated. She shook the sprinkles.

Of course, I couldn’t leave without a snack. Maple-Bacon French Toast, anyone?

And some desserts for the road.

Because the diet is going so well, I really didn’t want to jeopardize things by downing a half-dozen cupcakes to myself. So I sliced them all up, and we had a cupcake tasting. The Maple Bacon was the hands-down favourite, with the Chocolate coming in second. (The others included Red Velvet, Orange Creamsicle, Chocolate Mint, and Vanilla).
